Fair Oaks EcoHousing
Fair Oaks EcoHousing is a pedestrian-friendly village for people of all ages, where neighbors know and care about each other. Young folks have mentors, and older folks have support.
We live in an excellent location in lovely Fair Oaks, California. It is part of the bustling Sacramento Metropolitan area in Northern California, home of the State Capitol, and centered in the state. Travel just two hours west to reach the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco, and two hours east to visit the Sierra Nevada mountain range and Lake Tahoe.
We are close to the American River Parkway, Fair Oaks Village, Bannister Park, Sacramento Waldorf School, and Rudolf Steiner College.
We are an environmentally-friendly neighborhood with energy-efficient homes, generous open space, fruit trees, organic gardens, and a centrally-located clubhouse.
We are proud to be endorsed by the Environmental Council of Sacramento (ECOS) and to have one of our founders honored by ECOS as a 2016 Environmentalist of the Year for her work to establish Fair Oaks EcoHousing.
After years of work as a group developing the plans, and then constructing our community, we moved into our homes in Summer of 2020, and are enjoying creating our lives together.

An Introduction to EcoHousing
Fair Oaks EcoHousing offers a balance of privacy and community. EcoHousing, a type of cohousing community with a strong green focus, combines private homes with extensive community facilities to create neighborhoods that address the needs of singles, working parents and seniors. By combining private homes with a shared clubhouse and garden, residents experience the feeling of a small village where neighbors know and care about each other.
Plans and More
Imagine living in a family-friendly community where you actually know and interact with your neighbors. We live in energy-efficient flats or town homes that give us privacy when we want it, and right outside our door, a community of neighbors with which to share meals and activities. The community layout is designed to foster a safe environment for children, and to support community interactions. There is a shared clubhouse, pool, garden/orchard and workshop, and the community is close to hiking, biking, nature walks, fishing, and kayaking. Community Life
Community life is crucial to cohousing. Together we create our home and our life. Whether it is growing organic produce in our community garden, gardening with friends, cooking a meal together, playing with the children, or celebrating holidays, we put high priority on living life fully, responsible to our families, each other, our larger communities, and our global environment.
Lovely lupines line our walk.
